BY PHIL VENTRELLO, FOUNDER OF MUNIO SELF DEFENSE
Crap. That guy you noticed following you earlier just grabbed you.
And he isn’t delivering flowers! Here are 3 weapons you always have to
defend yourself with:
1) Your teeth
You remember that old slogan, “Take a bite out of Crime”? Well, I mean it... literally. Ok, yah this one’s rather primitive but man it works! I’m talking about chomping down on the nearest piece of the attacker’s flesh and going zombie on them. Go ahead and sink your teeth into their neck, their forearm, a finger, their lip, or whatever unfortunate piece of anatomy is closest. Bite big, and bite hard! I’ve taught some really cool martial arts moves that don’t even come close to how effective biting is.
2) Your elbows
Elbows are great when the situation is uncomfortably close and way too personal. They can really lay the hurt on an attacker. You can use your elbows in a few different ways: You can sweep in fast and smash into either side of their face, or strike upward under the chin. If you’re grabbed from behind you can strike backwards with your elbow into their ribs or up into their face. Practically any angle you choose will work... just do it with speed and intensity.
3) Palm heel strikes
Ok. What the heck are those? It’s really simple. Rather than a clenched fist for punching, just smack straight forward using the palm of your hand. Palm heel strikes are particularly effective on an attacker’s face, and great to smash into the chin, the nose, or the eye.
Whatever you do, just always use your maximum speed and power... and repeat (or mix ‘em together) until you can get away to safety. These are just a few of many, really good options that can work to protect you and give you that opportunity you need to escape.
Keep in mind that you will be safer if you are prepared for trouble as much as you can be. I strongly recommend basic self defense training for everyone. As an additional advantage, you should always carry an effective, easy to use and readily available self defense product. The MUNIO Self Defense Keychain has all of these qualities, and can give you a great safety advantage.
There are so many simple ways you can use your body as a defensive weapon.
What other parts of your body can you think of that you can use as a weapon?
I’ll cover some more next time. Until then, stay safe!
